Porsche Cars North America Statement Regarding Voluntary Recall of 2017 and 2018 Panamera Models

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) is issuing a voluntary recall for 2017 and 2018 model year Panamera models in the 50 United States and Puerto Rico.

During regular field observations, Porsche identified power steering issues. There is a possibility that, due to a software failure, the electric power steering assist might become momentarily or intermittently unavailable. In the case of disabled electric power steering assistance, the driver may have to provide increased force to the steering wheel, and might perceive this as a loss of steering control. In certain traffic situations, this might lead to a higher risk of a crash. No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of this software issue.
Affected vehicles will be recalled to authorized Porsche dealers, where the power steering control unit will be programmed with the latest software. Customers will be notified about the recall by mail. PCNA is instructing its dealers to perform the software update on every affected vehicle in their inventory before they may be sold and delivered. The dealership visit will take about an hour, and is free of charge for customers. There are 17,667 affected vehicles in the United States and Puerto Rico.
