Porsche Point of View:

Jens Walther, President/CEO, Porsche Motorsport North America
"We are launching the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in a very real way this week. Not only will this be the first time most of our customer teams will be running the new Porsche 911 GT America, it will also be the first time we will all be working with the new IMSA sanctioning body. Additionally, Sebring and Daytona are very different tracks. That will provide our engineers at Porsche Motorsport North America as well as the team and tire engineers considerable data to help prepare everyone for the debut season of the combined series. There will be a great deal we will all learn in these four days."

Leh Keen, Driver, No. 22 WeatherTech Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT America

"New cars are always tough but Porsche makes it much easier with their factory built racecars. We will really be seeing how the car responds to the tracks and the Continental tire. It will be an extremely productive four days. We know exactly how the last car was at Sebring and Daytona so the new Porsche 911 GT America differences will be clear. Greg [Fordahl, Alex Job Racing team engineer] is one of the best at figuring out new cars and with his Porsche experience we are really looking forward to having some fun with the new car and getting to know what it likes. There will be some hiccups and some unknowns as there always are but that's just part of it. Preparation is so key in such competitive racing and it really shows how committed WeatherTech and AJR are to have the cars for this big test. Personally, I am extremely excited to get to feel the new chassis as a racecar. I have been in a Porsche most of my career and its always exciting when a new chassis hits the track. I have seen the car and it is beautiful."

Bernhard Muehlner, managing director of Muehlner Motorsports America LLC

"We are different than many of the other Porsche 911 GT America teams in that our cars are not owned by a driver, so the four season-long slots, plus additional positions for the longer races, are wide open. We will use the test to have a competition to see who wants to drive these new cars to compete for the GT Daytona championship. Also, we will work with our major suppliers and sponsors - H&R springs, Bilstein gas pressure dampers, and Pagid brake pads - to set up our Muehlner Motorsports Porsches."

Porsche Profile:

Porsche 911 GT America Debuts with Sebring/Daytona Tests

Saturday's TUDOR United SportsCar Championship "tire test" at Sebring International Raceway marks the official public debut of Porsche's newest race model, the 911 GT America. Six of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car-based, North America-only model are entered to take part in the two days of testing at Sebring as well as the two days of additional testing at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Created exclusively for Porsche Motorsport North America and the GT Daytona class of the TUDOR Championship by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany, the GT America features a Porsche flat-six 4.0 liter racing engine which produces 470 hp and utilizes a six-speed sequential gearbox with pneumatic paddle shift system and electronic throttle. The car has lightweight bodywork with aluminum-steel composite construction, a fuel safety cell with new quick-fill connection, a color Cosworth dash display and new safety equipment including a rescue opening in the roof allowing use of the KED system for driver stabilization. Like the 911 GT3 Cup and 911 RSR, the GT America is developed from the seventh-generation 911 road car.

36 Hours in Florida - A Brief History of Porsche at Sebring and Daytona:

The world debut of the Porsche 911 GT America this weekend at Sebring and Daytona brings back memories of Porsche racecars that earned world-wide fame by winning at these Florida endurance classics.

The list of winning cars the Rolex 24 reads like a chronology of famous Porsche racing models since the 1960s. From the Porsche 907 (1968), to the 917 (1970, 1971), to the Porsche 911 Carrera (1973, 1974, 1977) and Porsche 935 (1978 - 1983), the 962 (1985 - 1987, 1989, 1991, 1995), through the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (2003) and Porsche 911-powered Riley Daytona Prototype, Porsche racing cars have excelled at the "36 Hours of Florida". These entries are recognized as some of the most innovative, durable and highest performing sports racing cars of their day.

The 12 Hours of Sebring Porsche honor role is just as broad, with 18 overall wins, including the first victory in 1960 for a Porsche 718 RS 60 driven by Hans Hermann and Oliver Gendebien. Other overall Sebring wins have included the Porsche 907 (1968); the Porsche 917 (1971); the 911 Carrera (1973, 1976, 1977); the Porsche 935 (1978 - 1982, 1984); the 934 (1983); the Porsche 962 (1985 - 1988), and, most recently, the Porsche RS Spyder (2008). A Porsche has competed at Sebring every year since 1953 - 60 straight races (there was no race in 1974).

Porsche North America 911 RSR Factory Team Awaits TUDOR Debut in January

As scheduled, Porsche's challenger for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans class will debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 25-26, 2014. Porsche Cars North America will enter a two-car factory effort fielded by CORE autosport and utilizing the Porsche 911 RSR, the marque's premier worldwide GT entry. Team Falken Tire, which announced its place as the only customer program to campaign the 911 RSR in North America on November 6th, will have its single entry at the second race of the 2014 season, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The trio of RSRs will then challenge for race wins and the championship throughout the remainder of the 12 race schedule.

Meanwhile, Porsche AG Team Manthey continues its inaugural season in the FIA/ACO World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the Porsche 911 RSR. The operation finished first and second in the GTE Pro category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and continues in the point chase entering the season-finale, the Six Hours of Bahrain, on November 30th. Porsche AG Team Manthey is locked in a three-way battle for the team title only 15.5 points out of the lead going to Bahrain.
