Tudor United SportsCar Championship, Round 3 of 10, Long Beach, California

Long Beach, California, April 17, 2015. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship makes its yearly trip to the streets of Southern California this weekend. A 15-minute qualifying session today set the grid for Saturday’s 100-minute Tequila Patrón Sports Car Showcase, the season’s shortest race, at Long Beach. With limited track time at the “granddaddy” of North American street races, only two of the TUDOR Championship’s four classes – Prototype (P) and GT Le Mans (GTLM) – traveled here to contest for the podium finishes tomorrow. The No. 912 Porsche North America entry led all three Porsche 911 RSRs utilizing the most advanced race version of the iconic rear-engine sports car.

With the GT Daytona (GTD) class not competing this weekend at Long Beach, the Porsche 911 GT America is not on site, leaving the German marques’ hopes on the shoulders of the Porsche North America factory program and the lone Porsche 911 RSR customer team in the United States, Team Falken Tire. The two works program cars set the quickest times for the seventh-generation 911 in a 15-minute qualifying session on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street course. Richard Lietz (Austria) turned a time of one-minute, 17.932 seconds to lead the Porsche trio. The Austrian’s time was sixth-quickest in class trailing pole-winner Bill Auberlen in a BMW Z4 GTE by a scant 0.664-seconds. Fellow factory driver Patrick Pilet (France) drove the No. 911 Porsche North America RSR to a time of 1:18.185, just behind Lietz in seventh. Braselton, Georgia’s Bryan Sellers was eighth-quick in the Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR with a best lap of 1:18.728.
