Porsche Profile. Event Story Lines.
GT Cup Class Presents Stepping Stone to Professional GT Sprint Racing.
Competing under the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup rules, the 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Cars (2014 cars with upgrade kits will be allowed) will run with the GT and GTA (the Amateur class of GT) class cars creating the GT Cup presented by MOMO class in Pirelli World Challenge. The class "bridges the gap" between the two title classes of GTS and GT. Ten teams have entered in the newly-formed class with the potential for up to 16 cars before the end of the year. Long-time Porsche entrant Kelly Moss Motorsports has entered the newly formed class with 2014 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge champion Colin Thompson (Doylestown, Pennsylvania) behind the wheel. Kelly Moss Motorsports last ran in World Challenge in 1994, the same year, ironically, that Thompson was born. Another title-winning team, ANSA Motorsports, comes to Pirelli World Challenge with Lorenzo Trefethen (Napa, California). In 2014, ANSA won the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA Gold Team and Driver's championships. Long-time World Challenge competitor, Global Motorsports Group (GMG), will have an entry for GT Cup with 19 year-old Alec Udell (The Woodlands, Texas). Despite his age, Udell already has several years of World Challenge experience under his belt. Another team with long standing World Challenge ties, TruSpeed Motorsports, will bring two cars to GT Cup with Phil Fogg Jr. (Portland, Oregon) and Sloan Urry (Salt Lake City, Utah) behind the wheel. TruSpeed, another team with multiple World Challenge championships - including an overall title with Porsche factory driver Patrick Long (Manhattan Beach, California) in 2011 is entered. The 2010 and 2011 GT3 Cup Challenge USA champions, NGT Motorsport, come to World Challenge with Eduardo Cisneros (Miami, Florida) behind the wheel. NGT and the Cisneros family have had much success together. Wright Motorsports expands into World Challenge with Mexico's Santiago Creel, who has spent the last few years in GT3 Cup Challenge USA with Wright. Phoenix American Motorsports comes to World Challenge with a single GT Cup ride for Preston Calvert (Potomac, Maryland). The Elton Julian-led DragonSpeed team expands their World Challenge efforts into GT Cup with 18 year-old Victor Gomez (Puerto Rico) behind the wheel. GTS class regular, Mitch Landry (Lake Charles, Louisiana), makes the switch into GT Cup with Landry Racing. Landry also holds Porsche experience racing in GT3 Cup Challenge USA finishing third in 2011.

Young Driver Trio Debuts in Austin. Three Porsche 2014 Young Driver Academy Participants to Race at COTA
As an addition to its already-successful Porsche North American Young Drivers Academy - now in its fourth year - Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) has joined with EFFORT Racing in the Pirelli World Challenge series to support EFFORT with its unique young driver scholarship. The program will provide promising North American racecar drivers with an opportunity to reap the numerous benefits of competition in a professional racing series with a top motorsports organization. Last year's Porsche Young Drivers Academy at Barber Motorsports Park produced three drivers who are entered this weekend in Porsche GT Cup cars: Sloan Urry (Salt Lake City, Utah), Michael Lewis (Laguna Beach, California) and Colin Thompson (Doylestown, Pennsylvania). Lewis, the 23 year-old driver who nearly won the 2014 Porsche GT3 Cup IMSA Challenge, was granted the IMSA Driver Scholarship in 2014. Lewis was nominated for the No. 41 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R seat after a competitive test held by the team. Thompson won the 2014 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA, while Urry was in the championship hunt until the final weekend. Porsche factory driver Patrick Long will be on hand to coach the drivers on and off the track during the season as his schedule allows. Porsche Motorsport North America's Young Drivers Academy is focused on the North American market, and is integrated into the overall Porsche philosophy to search and support young sports car driving talent.

Cayman at COTA. GTS Racing Brings Back Two-Car Porsche Cayman in GTS
The Porsche Cayman S GTSport team led by crew chief Bob Sanderson and engineer Steve Ruiz have worked nonstop throughout the off season with team owner and lead driver Jack Baldwin (Marietta, Georgia) to make their successful Porsche even better for the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season. GTSport Racing is heading into their fourth year as GTS class competitors and driver Baldwin, No. 73 Porsche Cayman S, will once again make a serious run for the GTS Championship. Driver of the No. 72, Buz McCall (Boca Raton, Florida), the recipient of the 2014 Sunoco Hard Charger Award for most positions gained in the GTS class hopes to continue his pattern of consistency and clean top-ten finishes. Baldwin placed second overall in the GTS Championship in 2014, while McCall placed eleventh overall. GTSport Racing will continue its technical partnership with Goldcrest Motorsports.

Supporting Cast. Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Racing Series
Porsche has raced since its founding to prove and improve its road cars. In that time, the brand has become synonymous with sports car endurance racing but in recent years the German marque has also built a reputation as an ideal one-make series for sprint racing. Beginning first with the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup Series in 1993, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car has been used as the backbone for series supporting major race events around the globe. This weekend, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Racing Series is lending its strong roster of late model Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars to the Pirelli World Challenge season-opener at Circuit of the Americas.

The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA slots above most amateur level competition but just below the one-make Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Michelin in the sports car driver development ladder. The series features Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racecars (Model Years 2000-2013). More information on the series is available at

Porsche Point of View.
Jens Walther, President/CEO, Porsche Motorsport North America
"There are several significant premieres for Porsche at this weekend's opening round of Pirelli World Challenge, all of which relate to our strategy of developing drivers. Top among those is the new GT Cup class which utilizes the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. This will provide an excellent stepping-stone for customers coming from other one-make Porsche series, like the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA which is also racing here, into the sports car sprint racing format. Additional evidence is Porsche's partnership on the next 'rung' of the young driver development ladder with EFFORT Racing to put Michael Lewis in the No. 41 Porsche 911 GT3 R. Michael is one of three participants of our 2014 Young Driver Academy class here this week. That is confirmation of the strength of the concept and approach of the program. The others are Colin Thompson and Sloan Urry, both of who are competing in the GT Cup class. GTSport returns as well with two Porsche Caymans prepared for the World Challenge GTS class and EFFORT is going for overall wins with Ryan Dalziel (Scotland) in the No. 31 911 GT3 R. We are pleased to be launching the 2015 sports car sprint racing season with so much potential."

Chuck Toups, Team Owner, EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, GT/GTA class
"The primary goal of partnering with Porsche and other Young Driver partners is to provide a 'finishing' step in the development ladder for the next generation of race/factory drivers. We are here to assure the driver is well rounded and their capabilities further developed so that they can perform with excellence, both on and off the race track. The factory race drivers of today need to have competency in many areas to be not only a winner, but a strong brand ambassador for the teams, sponsors, causes and the broader motorsports community. EFFORT Racing will provide the race program support for all the cars and assure the core elements of the driver's readiness for their career as a professional racecar driver. Michael Lewis comes to us with a very good outlook and proven capability. Ryan Dalziel plays a crucial role in the program delivery as he will act not only as a senior team member but as a mentor alongside Porsche factory driver Pat Long to support development goals both on and off the racetrack."

Colin Thompson, No. 11 Kelly- Moss Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, GT Cup class
"Coming off such a successful season, you can't help but have a boost of confidence going into this new year. I'm really hoping to carry that momentum through the first few races of the Pirelli World Challenge and hopefully I'll continue to build on that confidence throughout the season. Every week when you check the entry list, the competition is getting stiffer and stiffer in the GT Cup category. It looks like we're going to have a four or five-way battle for the championship. One of my biggest competitors will be my teammates, specifically Sloan Urry. It'll be cool to be on the same team as potentially one of my top rivals. It won't be easy, but it'll be a great experience and a lot of fun.
