1995

  • A Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is recognized by The Guiness Book of World Records for the "Toughest 100,000 Kilometer Test Run of a Sportscar." The car completed five grueling tests:

    - A 24-hour test at minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit on the frozen Mackenzie River north of the Arctic Circle in Canada;

    - A 24-hour run on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah;

    - Driving over 24 Alpine passes in 24 hours;

    - 2,000 km (1,243 miles) at full speed on the Nardo racetrack in Italy (reaching an average speed of 156.3 mph (251.6 km/h), including pit stops — a world record for four-wheel production cars;

    - A 24-hour test under extreme conditions at the Porsche Research and Development Center test track in Weissach, Germany. A single mile kilometer on this varied-surface track is equivalent to 27 km (16.7 miles) of real-world driving.
  • Popular Mechanics magazine presents its "Design and Engineering Award" to the 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo.
  • Popular Science magazine recognizes the 1995 911 Carrera among its "Best of What’s New."
  • Playboy Magazine names the Porsche 911 Carrera its "Car of The Year."
